Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)
This trip is in memory of Bob Bancroft and in aid of PSP, a little-known condition to date. The following are a few words from Carla, his wife to explain what happened to Bob and to raise awareness.
Bob was a fit active man having worked as police officer for 30 years and rising to rank of sergeant . He was a keen fisherman and an excellent shot had been in charge of the firearms unit in Wales for a time.
He was diagnosed with PSP in November 2013 and we were given no information on the condition other than it would get worse. So we googled it! We couldn't believe what we were reading - terminal, no cure, affects balance, eyes, speech, and ability to swallow. All of this happened to Bob .
Awareness needs to be raised particularly with the medical profession itself. We were just told come back in six months!
Bob's condition deteriorated rapidly in 2016 and in June we went to Majorca with an amazing group friends from the village. Bob enjoyed every minute. On arriving home the following week he had numerous falls, was taken to hospital and stayed for a week. By then he could no longer eat or drink, and palliative care was activated as Bob had made decision a while ago not to be peg fed. We managed to get him home.
We had an amazing team district nurses, and Marie Curie. Bob died on Wednesday 29 th June 2016 at home surrounded by family. He donated his brain and tissue to the brain bank so he could help in the research for this debilitating illness.
Please help to raise funds and awareness for PSP. You can do this by sharing this page, inviting all your friends to like the page, donating using the Donate button, or coming along to cheer us on in August when the ponies will be giving their all in aid of this charity.
Thank you, we really appreciate your support!
