About

a pub as it used to be

The Talbot Taphouse is a traditional Victorian ‘flat iron’ shaped pub. Built as a Shipstone’s alehouse, to serve the thirsty community of local miners and steelworkers, it had a reputation as the best cellar in Ripley. Our ales are cooled on the original stone stillage, designed to keep cask ale in perfect condition long before refridgeration was commonplace. It is the perfect place to celebrate our national drink, cask conditioned ale in all its guises. Local real ales, served alongside all that it interesting, exciting and challenging - including traditional ciders, quality continental and locally brewed lagers, quirky Belgium ale and hop-charged American microbrewed beers, served from the bottle, cask or keg. The Talbot Taphouse is a little different. It is as a pub used to be, serving a full pint of locally brewed beer in an environment where conversation rules, a place to sit comfortably with a pint and the paper or to meet friends - new and old.
